Sheena

Sheena is the English rendering of the Scottish Gaelic Sìne, itself a form of Jane, which traces back through French Jeanne to the Hebrew Yochanan meaning God is gracious. The spelling gained its own life in the twentieth century, helped along by Sheena Easton's pop stardom in the 1980s and the pulp comic heroine Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. The sound is two clean syllables, an airy sh blooming into a long e. It feels at once Scottish highlands and new-wave radio, heather and synths. Playful, bright, with just enough edge to it. A name that knows its way around a stage.
