Joshua

Trumpets at Jericho, walls falling outward in a cloud of dust: Joshua leads the Israelites into the promised land and into one of the Bible's great set pieces. The Hebrew Yehoshua means the Lord is salvation, and it is, by way of Greek, the same root that gives us Jesus. The name exploded in the U.S. in the 1970s and 80s on a wave of baby-boomer parents reaching for biblical but not stuffy. It has been slowly ebbing since, now sitting at 57 and given to about one in 327 boys. Still solid, still scripture, still three quick syllables that know how to march.
