The Armenian churches of Etchmiadzin have sung liturgy for seventeen centuries, and Hovsep has been heard in those vaults for most of them. It is the Armenian passage through which Joseph traveled — the great dreamer, the sold brother, the interpreter of pharaohs — arriving with an aspirated first syllable that opens like a breath of high mountain air before the name closes firmly on sep.
